Segmentation Hierarchies

Initially defined in the dual graph pyramids framework [HK04], we have ported the MST Pyramid hierarchical segmentation method to the framework of combinatorial pyramids, where all 2D configurations are correctly represented. We have benchmarked produced segmentations with respect to human made segmentations [HIK06b] and the results of other two broadly used methods: the state of the art Normalized Cut [HIK06b] and the minimum spanning tree based segmentation method by Felzenszwalb [HIKI05]. Results where positive i.e. our method has proven itself to be just as good as the other two. (Additional tests will follow.) Analytically characterising the properties of the regions produced by our method was the focus of [IKH06].
