Widespread pathological conditions of the aorta such as aneurysms or
dissections are often treated by placing a stent inside the vessel to
support the functionality and healing process.
Chronic or acute functional deficits of the aorta around its arch are
difficult to treat in that fashion. The branching vessels in that
region make traditional surgical methods rarely an option.
The method on which this work is based consists of repositioning the
super-aortic vessels before placing the supporting stent, resulting in
the full reconstruction of the vessels functionality.

Such a procedure presents a substantial change in the anatomy of the
vessel systems structure. As a consequence, the dynamics and strain of
the aorta are strongly affected. It is of great interest to measure
these changes quantitavely. These measurements could be used to assess
the success of the intervention on the one hand, and also enable a pre-
interventive analysis of the expected results of the procedure.

The thesis will be concerned with the following methods:

• Segmentation of the aorta from available CTA-datasets using a
dynamic surface model
• Robust tracking of the aorta through time
• Computation of discriminative parameters on the vessel’s surface
• Registration of these parameters for one CTA-dataset
• Registration between pre-, inter- and post-interventive CTAs of one
patient
• Registration over a population of patients
• Evaluation of the changes in vessel dynamics
