Rheumatism is a serious problem in today’s demographic ageing society. For this reason early diagnosis is very important to start an appropriate treatment. In this talk a method which provides spatial information about the position and shape of hand bones as a basic condition for further medical analysis will be presented. The proposed automated pipeline consists of several parts: The modelling step based on manual segmentation is done by means of Minimum Description Length. For localization Markov Random Fields are used and the final segmentation of single bones is done via Active Shape Models. Furthermore this pipeline shall be able to work not only on CT hand data but also on other medical volumes with little adaption.
