The aim of this praktical work is to enhance the visual appearance of individual
characters in handwritten manuscripts. The methods proposed are applicable to different types of document images, e.g. handwritten or printed text. The algorithm proposed is arranged by three steps.
First, in the binarization step each character is segmented based on a hidden Markov model approach. Then repetitive character segments are matched to extract relevant information. Finally, in the reconstruction step every pixel is mapped onto a high resolution grid. Experimental results highlight the visual advantage of the proposed methods.
